What you need to know about
legally using communications radios

Google Ref: “The General Mobile Radio Service (GMRS) is a licensed radio service that uses channels around 462 MHz and 467 MHz. The most common use of GMRS channels is for short-distance, two-way communications using hand-held radios similar to walkie-talkies.”

Greetings Block Watch and PNP Friends,

As many of you may remember ProComm has programmed your block watch radios with GMRS frequencies in channels 3 through 15. This was so that you each may talk to one another about non-block-watch-related things on a different frequency than the fundamental block watch channels of Channel 1 or Channel 2.

The problem with this is that, in order to use those frequencies legally, each individual or family needs to have a GMRS License. (A GMRS License covers the whole family, is good for 10 years and costs just $70.00 – less than the price of a decent pizza per year or about the cost of a pack of chewing gum per month.) Most of you just don’t use those channels (3 through 15) because of lack of a license. Now’s the time to find out more about what GMRS is, what it can do for you and how you can join a GMRS Repeater Group which consists of families who use the White Tanks Mountain “PHX Hi-Power 550” GMRS repeater to be able to talk from nearly Quartzite (to the West) to Florence Junction (to the East) and all over the Valley of the Sun.

This meeting of the Arizona GMRS Repeater Club will be a general meeting and the regular business of the club will be discussed as well as being a few interesting presentations (to be determined).  Please email me at tmrva1@gmail.com for more information or if you have any questions.
DO NOT call ProComm for information!

I hope that as many of you as are interested in GMRS and using a wide-area repeater for Valley-Wide communications will attend and maybe even get your GMRS Licenses and join our club.  You can find out more about the club by visiting http://www.gmrs1900.net

Have a blessed week!

All the best,
Tim
